Experiment
Name: Printing of 100% cotton fabric with reactive dye.
Theory:
The printing of textile material is the application of color according
to predetermined design. In direct style the dyes are directly printed at the
required places of the fabric. Nowadays screen printing is by far the most
common technology today. There are two types of screen printing system.
1. Rotary screen printing.
2. Flat screen printing.
Objective:
1. To learn about printing process of
cotton fabric by reactive dye.
2. To learn about screen printing method.
Nature of Sample: 100% cotton woven fabric.
Apparatus
required:
1. Beakers.
2. Glass Rod.
3. Measuring Cylinder.
4. Digital Balance.
5. Printing Screen.
6. Squeezer.
Process
Sequence:
Preparation of fabric.
Preparation of print paste.
Application of print paste on the surface
of the fabric.
Dry the fabric at room temperature.
Steaming
After Treatment.
Printing recipe :
Reactive dye : 2 parts
Urea : 5 parts
Resists salt : 2 parts
Soda ash : 1 parts
Sodium alginate : 65 parts
Water :25 parts
Total 100 parts
Working Procedure:
1. Preparation of fabric.
2.
·
Urea + Dye + Boiled water =
paste-I
·
Paste-I + thickener = paste –
II
·
Paste II + soda ash = print
paste
3. Application of print paste on the
surface of fabric.
4. Dry the sample at room temperature.
5. Steaming at 100deg C.
6. Soap wash
Sample attachment and observation:
Pre caution:
1. We have to maintain the viscosity of
print paste.
2. We have to apply even pressure on
squeezer for even printing.
