Types of Fabric Lay Fabric Lay: Spreading means the smooth laying out of the fabric in superimposed layer (plies) of specified length and after spreading the shape of fabric plies is called fabric lay. During spreading no of lay should be not more than 300. Types of Fabric Lay: I.According to construction: a) Straight lay, b) Stepped lay. a) Straight lay: In straight lay each ply of fabric is spread according to marker length. Use of marker lay is more. b) Stepped lay: Ply of fabric lay is not spreaded according to marker length i.e. arranged step by step. A different type of marker is essential for stepped lay. Its use is very much less because of fabric wastage and lay making is difficult. Difference between Straight lay & Stepped lay: Straight lay Stepped lay 1. Each ply of fabric is spreaded according to marker length. 1. Each ply of fabric is not spreaded according to marker length i.e. arranged step by step. 2. Mostly used. 2. Less used. 3. Less fabric wastage. 3. More wastage. 4. To make lay is simple. 4. To make lay is difficult. 5. A marker is used. 5. Different type of marker is used. II. According to direction of spread: a) Fabric spreading from right to left, b) Face to face fabric spreading & c) Zig-zag lay. a) Fabric spreading from right to left: Face side of fabric for each ply is either upper side or down side but fabric spreading direction side is always same. After spreading of each lay, fabric end is cut then again from same end fabric is spreaded. b) Face to face fabric spreading: Face side of fabric ply is spreaded face to face and for lay preparation. Roll of fabric is essential to turn after spreading of each ply. For this special spreading machine is used. c) Zig-zag lay: Zig-zag lay is prepared by storing spreading of fabric from one end to other end not cutting fabric and by holding continuously fabric spreading. In Garments Industry zig-zag lay is used mostly and for asymmetric fabric, this lay problem.

Types of Splice

Splice:
If any fault is found in fabric during preparation of fabric lay with spreading, it is cut out to fabric width. Then fabric spreading is again started by overlapping of new end on cut end of fabric as possibly. The splice position is identified to the marker. This overlapping is Splice.

Types of Splice:
  Generally two types:
a)      Straight line splice,
b)      Interlock splice.

a)      Straight line splice:
The splice is identified with a straight line to the depth spreading table. Fabric spreading is again started 2" fabric more both side of splice line.

b)     Interlock splice:
The sign of this splice is understood by two straight lines which are cross-line. This splice mark is at first identified by chalk on spreading table. Interlock splice mark means that two ends patterns are in interlock to width in that mark. In this splice, fabric spreading is started by overlapping if 2" in both sides of interlock splice mark.
